84-year-old says she was strip-searched at JFK

Web Produced by Karina Vigo, Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- An 84-year-old says she was strip-searched at JFK International Airport.

Lenore Zimmerman was headed for a trip to Florida on Tuesday when she asked officials to be patted down instead of going through the body scanner.

She says she was taken to a private screening room where a female TSA agent pulled down her underwear and searched her.

"It's just despicable," Zimmerman said.

In a released statement, the TSA denies the allegations and claims that there was no strip search conducted on Zimmerman.

"While we regret that the passenger feels she had an unpleasant screening experience, TSA does not include strip searches as part of our security protocols and one was not conducted in this case," the statement read.

But Zimmerman tells a different story. "They took me into a private room and strip searched me. She says, 'Will you pull your pants down please.' And then she pulled my underwear down and strip searched me," Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman, a native of Long Beach, NY, said she didn't want to go through the scanner because she feared it would interfere with her defibrillator.

"I weigh 103 pounds. I'm gonna be 85 on February 1st. So, I'm your typical terrorist right?" Zimmerman said.

The TSA says they also reviewed closed circuit cameras that recorded the incident at JFK and they maintain proper proceedure was followed.
