Tree falls on car in Seattle, killing 9-year-old girl

  Eyewitness NewsSEATTLE (WABC) -- A 9-year-old girl was killed Sunday in Seattle when a tree fell on the car she was riding in.

Police there say a family of five was driving during a windstorm when a foot-long branch fell off a nearby tree.

The branch crashed into their Ford Explorer and smashed in the roof and windshield.

The girl, sitting in the right-rear passenger seat, died of her injuries.

Her father in the front passenger seat and her two older sisters were taken to a hospital.

The girls' mother was driving and wasn't hurt.

Police say winds were gusting over 50 miles an hour when the accident happened.
