Man rescues neighbor after car crashes into pool

Eyewitness NewsMASSACHUSETTS (WABC) -- A neighbor is being hailed as a hero after he made a dramatic rescue in a backyard pool in Massachusetts.

A driver in his 80s was apparently trying to back into his driveway when he hit the gas instead of the brake.

He plowed through his neighbor's fence and landed in the pool.

A quick-thinking neighbor, Tom Cheffro, jumped in the pool and tried to get open the door, but couldn't.

So he pushed down the window, unbuckled the driver and pulled him to safety.

"We were joking before the ambulance came, we were sitting in the chair joking," Cheffro told WHDH. "We're just going to see how many YouTube hits this gets."

The driver went to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
