Sean Kingston 'conscious,' in hospital ICU, after accident

Sean Kingston is recovering in the intensive care unit of a Florida hospital after being injured in a personal watercraft accident over the weekend and is sedated but conscious, his rep says.

The 21-year-old hip hop artist and a female passenger had crashed into a bridge near Miami Beach on Sunday after they reportedly lost control of the watercraft. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, but it is not believed that alcohol was involved.

Kingson is currently in critical condition. He is hooked up to a ventilator and has a tube inserted in his throat but is "aware of what is going on around him" and "is sedated but fully conscious," MTV News on Tuesday, May 31 quoted his rep as saying.

His spokesperson said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com on Monday that Kingston was "stabilized" and had been moved from the trauma unit to the ICU.

Kingston's first single, "Beautiful Girls," topped the charts for three weeks in 2007. His self-titled debut album sold over 1 million copies worldwide. Kingston recently toured with pop star Justin Bieber. The two collaborated on Kingston's single "Eeenie Meenie" in 2010.

Bieber wrote on Twitter, "Got my friend @seankingston in my prayers tonight. A true friend and big bro. Please keep him in your prayers tonight as well."

Kingston described his music as a fusion of reggae, pop, rap and R&B and told the Associated Press in a 2007 interview that he refuses to use profanity in his music, saying "that's not the message I am trying to send out."
