Gifts stolen from tent at Pennsylvania wedding

BUCKS COUNTY -- Police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of wedding gifts from the site of a wedding in Bucks County.

"Forever I'll be thinking about the reception and how great it was and then just remember this tragedy at the end," said Amy Wright.

Amy, 30, and Jason Wright, 31, of Pipersville, Pa. had the perfect wedding Saturday on a friend's bucolic farm on Gruversville Road in Richlandtown, Pa.

Amy arrived in a carriage, they said their vows and had a great reception surrounded by family and friends.

But the couple woke up around 7:30 a.m. Sunday to find someone had stolen all their gifts: $10,000 worth of cash and presents left out under a tent.

"There's big gift boxes, there was a table full of things," said Jason. "It wasn't just 'Grab something and run.' It had to be a number of people or they took multiple trips."

Jason and Amy were sleeping in a house just 20 yards away.

"I just felt so violated, not only for myself and Jason but all of our family," said Amy. "It's so creepy to think someone would do that to someone on such a joyous day."

The couple began searching the property. But all they found, floating in a pond, were the soaked remnants of a couple of wedding cards.

"Torn open and all the stuff was removed from out of them," said Amy.

The couple called police. And then they had to call over 100 guests to find out exactly what they'd given them so they'd know what was stolen.

"I feel more sorry for the people who put their time and effort and hard-earned money into picking them out and getting them," said Jason. "But at this point it's strictly principle. Like she said, we feel so violated we just want them caught."

"To steal presents at a wedding in my mind is about as low as you can go," said family friend Pat Raynock, who owns a farm nearby.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating. And Jason's father is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the thieves' capture.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call PSP Dublin Station, Tpr Stephen Zicker at 215-249-9191.

Marvel plans wedding for gay superhero Northstar

See it on TV? Check here. AP  MATT MOOREPHILADELPHIA -- Wedding bells will ring this summer for Marvel Comics' first openly gay hero, super speedster Northstar, and his longtime boyfriend.

The New York-based publisher said Tuesday that Canadian character Jean-Paul Beaubier will marry his beau, Kyle Jinadu, in the pages of "Astonishing X-Men" No. 51. That's due out June 20.

Northstar revealed he was gay in the pages of "Alpha Flight" No. 106 in 1992, one of Marvel Entertainment's first characters to do so.

Ten years later, in 2002, gay characters Apollo and the Midnighter were married in the pages of "The Authority" published by DC's Wildstorm imprint.

Since then, numerous comic book heroes and villains have been written as gay, lesbian or transgender - from DC Comics' Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, to Hulkling and Wiccan in the pages of "Young Avengers."

Comics, as a medium, have embraced gay, lesbian and transgender characters, including the introduction of Kevin Keller by Archie Comics. Comic strips have done likewise.

This month, cartoonist Tom Batiuk is writing about a gay couple trying to attend their high school prom in "Funky Winkerbean," a move that has divided the fictional community.

"As I sit in on the classes at my old high school, I see how the younger generation's attitude toward gays is more open and accepting than that of their predecessors," Batiuk said.

For Marvel, the upcoming wedding is a way to further embed same-sex issues in its contemporary universe.

"The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality," said Axel Alonso, Marvel's editor-in-chief.

Author Marjorie Liu, who is writing "Astonishing X-Men," said the decision to have the pair marry was appropriate.

"As a writer - and a romance novelist, no less - I've always found it a bit odd when characters in comic books remain in relationship limbo for years at a time," she said.

"Certainly, that happens in real life - some relationships just never grow - but the wonderful thing about stories is that they tend to move readers and characters forward," Liu said, adding that Northstar pops the question in issue No. 50, which is due out on Wednesday.

"And, in this case, it was time to do the same to Northstar and Kyle, who have one of those rare comic book romances that actually works."

As for the event itself, Liu said the wedding will take place in New York City, where gay marriage is legal, but given that Northstar is on the X-Men, it remains to be seen if the event will be trouble-free.

"As for the ceremony ... well, what wedding ever goes off without a hitch?"

Charles remembers royal wedding in Christmas card

See it on TV? Check here. AP  Eyewitness NewsLONDON -- From wedding bells to jingle bells: Prince Charles has picked a photo from his son's wedding for his official Christmas card this year.

Palace officials on Friday released an image of the card, which pictures Charles standing next to his wife, Camilla, while he holds up his wife's then 3-year-old granddaughter - and royal wedding bridesmaid - Eliza Lopes.

The image was captured when the group stood on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet the thousands of well-wishers on hand to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29.

The palace said the outside of each card features part of the Prince of Wales' crest and his wife's cypher.

On the inside, a red border surrounds the photograph opposite the words "Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year."

Albert, Charlene set for Monaco religious wedding

AP  MONACO -- A day after the civil wedding that transformed one-time Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock into the Princess of Monaco, the South African and Prince Albert II prepared to say their vows in a star-studded religious ceremony Saturday.

The bride appeared to tear up behind the veil as she took her place at the altar inside the princely palace where the Catholic ceremony was taking place.

Charlene wore an off-the-shoulder gown by Giorgio Armani, and a long veil.

VIP guests including Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, former James Bond actor Roger Moore and former French first lady Bernadette Chirac joined European royals, heads of state, top models and world-class athletes streaming up the red carpet and into the palace.

Photographers shouted at Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova, dressed in a sober navy skirt suit, to strike a pose, and the crowd of thousands of the principality's citizens following the festivities on giant screens just outside the palace broke into cheers as French musician Jean Michelle Jarre swept by.

Other household names expected to converge on the princely palace - an Italian Renaissance castle where Monaco's ruling Grimaldi dynasty has resided for centuries - include French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, U.S. soprano Renee Fleming and Giorgio Armani, the Italian designer who made Charlene's wedding gown.

More than 2500 hours of work, 80 meters (88 yards) of silk and 40,000 Swarovski crystals went into the gown, the palace said.

Celebrated French-born chef Alain Ducasse prepared a multi-course dinner for 450 guests.

Ducasse, who like many in his tax bracket has taken citizenship in Monaco, is the first chef to earn three Michelin stars in three different cities, including three for his Louis XV restaurant in Monaco. He has said freshly caught fish and vegetables grown on Albert's farm will be on the menu. A fireworks extravaganza will follow.

The couple was married in an intimate civil service on Friday inside the prince's palace. Albert's sisters, Princesses Caroline and Stephanie, were among several dozen guests at Friday's ceremony, which was held in the palace's sumptuous throne room where the prince's father, the late Rainier III, wed Hollywood legend Grace Kelly in 1956.

The blond beauty died in a car crash nearly 30 years ago, and this tiny principality on the Riviera had been without a princess ever since. Known as a notorious ladies man, 53-year-old Albert long eschewed marriage, and many in Monaco had resigned themselves to forever having a bachelor prince.

The constitution was even modified to ensure the continuity of the Grimaldi line, one of Europe's oldest dynasties, in case Albert never produced an heir. The prince acknowledged having fathered two children out of wedlock, but only his legitimate offspring would be able to succeed him. Rumors have swirled in recent days that a third illegitimate child had surfaced - prompting Charlene to allegedly try to call off the wedding and return to South Africa days before the festivities.

The palace has denied the reports, dismissing them as "ugly rumors" prompted by spite and jealousy.

Charlene, 33, has told interviewers she would like to have children.

Only Monaco's fewer than 8,000 citizens and their partners were allowed access to the Rocher, the rocky promontory presided over by the palace, to follow Saturday's service on two giant screens.

Several thousand residents came out for the civil ceremony a day earlier, many of them sporting dark suits or evening gowns and heels despite the scorching temperatures.

One of the attendees, 72-year-old Marie Malghreli, was still glowing from her family's brush with royalty.

"My husband last night touched the prince's hand and then the princess touched my husband's hand - my husband was touched - and I was standing next to him and I was jealous," she said. "She is really pretty, she's delicious."

Charlene was wearing a blue, ankle-length ensemble press handlers said was designed by the princess herself.

On Saturday, Charlene will wear one of her favorite labels, Armani, though the design of the dress has been kept under wraps.

For the Sunday brunch that will cap the days-long wedding festivities in Monaco, known as a magnet for the rich and famous, the princess is expected to wear Chanel's cross-town rival, Christian Dior.

Royal Wedding hat sells for over $130,000 on eBay

AP  LONDON -- Auction site eBay says a bidder has paid 81,100 pounds ($131,648) for the silk bow hat worn by Princess Beatrice to last month's royal wedding.

The 22-year-old granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II put the Philip Treacy creation on sale to raise money for UNICEF and Children in Crisis.

The silk hat caused a stir at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29.

Since then, it has been compared to antlers and a pretzel, and has been photoshopped into scores of unlikely scenarios on the Internet. Forty bidders vied for the prize, but eBay did not reveal the identity of the winner.

The auction ended Sunday.

Princess Beatrice's wedding hat at $30K

AP  LONDON -- Online auctioneer eBay said Wednesday that bids for one of the wackiest pieces of royal wedding headgear have approached 18,400 pounds ($30,000.)

Princess Beatrice's massive ring-and-bow-shaped hat turned heads at the wedding of her cousin Prince William last month.

The Philip Treacy creation has been compared to a toilet seat or a pretzel. Images of the headpiece have been repeatedly digitally manipulated and posted online, featuring - for example - a cat crawling through it.

Funds from the hat's sale will go to UNICEF and Children in Crisis, according to eBay. Beatrice said she hoped whoever bought the hat would have "as much fun with it as I have."

The auction ends May 22.
