Stuffed tiger rescued from top of building

Eyewitness NewsHOUSTON (WABC) -- On occasion, firefighters can be called to rescue a cat from a tree.

But in Houston, authorities responded to reports of a tiger on top of an abandoned building.

They found the tiger, but it turned out to be a large stuffed animal and not the real thing.

They "rescued" the big cat.

The danger, they say, was that so many drivers were slowing down to look that it was becoming a traffic hazard.

Protesters arrested after building erected in DC

See it on TV? Check here. AP  Eyewitness NewsWASHINGTON -- U.S. Park Police are arresting Occupy D.C. protesters who are refusing to dismantle an unfinished wooden structure erected in a D.C. park overnight.

Protesters began constructing the wooden building Saturday, but on Sunday police told them they'd need a permit for such a structure and gave them an hour to disassemble it.

When the protesters failed to comply, officers on horseback moved in. Officers removed several protesters from the structure and arrested them, then started breaking down the structure.

Legba Carrefour, a participant in the Occupy D.C. protest, says 12 to 20 people had been arrested by mid-afternoon and several protesters remained on the structure in a standoff with officers.

Police could not be reached for an official arrest count.

Police have closed off some of the surrounding streets.

7 Nation Building Tips From Nehemiah

The book of Nehemiah is a perfect source of inspiration for anyone desiring to build or rebuild a nation that has seen it all. No nation can stand unless its citizens rise up and take responsibility for its growth and development. It was not an easy task for Nehemiah who initiatives were faces with opposition. In the midst of all that, the national interests were advance and the walls were built. What an incredible story on leadership and nation building. Some of the concepts apply to nation building in modern days.

1. A leader must have deep seated passion for nation building - Nehemiah was not out to build his name. The interest of the nation came first. There has to be a level of discontent with what is and a desire to see a better nation inside the leader. A leader cannot passionately convince others to follow if he/she is not fully convinced that this is what has to be done.

2. You need people to build a nation - A nation is actually people. For the building of national systems and structures, you cannot do that alone as a leader. You need the involvement of the willing citizens in order to get the tasks completed. When you sell the vision to the people clearly, they buy into the vision and before long the vision is well underway. Good leaders empower and delegate tasks to the people so that they feel a sense of belonging and contribution to the national success. Nehemiah organized people and got them to do the tasks.

3. Every meaningful development will face opposition - Whenever you set to build a nation, there will be elements opposed to the process who possibly have benefited from the state of ruins for a long time. The state of ruins signifies the collapse of national systems.

4. Not everyone can be the leader, someone has to lead - Nehemiah was the visionary behind the nation building process. Chaos emanates when every person thinks they too can lead and do it better than whoever is doing it now. Yes it creates a level of leadership competition but a nation just like a house needs one leader a time. Nehemiah did not lead forever, he still passed on the baton to others.

5. Nation building happens better when there is order and peace - Nehemiah followed protocol in the nation building process. He went to seek permission from the king before the process began. He did not just wake up and start running with the vision. He understood that in order for the vision to be a reality it needed the backing and support of the influential people in the nation. You may have good nation building intentions but they have to be exercised in the confines of structures that exist in the interest of order and peace.

6. It takes strategy not just muscle to build a nation - Careful planning took place before the actual building process commenced. You rather spend time planning how you will do it, writing down the processes, testing them on paper, allocating resources and so on. Any project undertaken without a project plan is doomed to fail. Nehemiah takes time to survey the extent of the problem and commits himself as project leader. He makes the problem clear to everyone to get their buy in. Resources were prepared in advance, the timber and so on. All this was strategic in getting people ready for what lay ahead; nation building process where there was a simultaneous operation of building and fighting.

7. Nation building is a risk worth taking - Nehemiah could not sit and watch the state of the walls becoming deplorably irreparable by the day. It is a risk to decide to lead a mob of people to build a nation. You face extreme opposition that threatens your own comfort and security. However, the benefits of the initiative far outweigh the pains and uncertainties that come with nation building. When you then celebrate the journey everything seems worth it in the end. Nehemiah refused to quit even though it seemed like an option. He looked beyond the risks and encouraged people to press in till the walls were built.

Suicide bomb kills 5 at Pakistani police building

AP  PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- A suicide bomber in an explosives-laden pickup truck leveled a police building in Pakistan's northwest Wednesday, killing five police officers and wounding at least 30 people in the latest round of bloodshed to rattle the country since the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the early morning strike in Peshawar, and promised more attacks as they and other al-Qaida-affiliated groups seek to avenge the al-Qaida leader's slaying. Already this month, the Pakistani Taliban have claimed three other revenge attacks, including a deadly 18-hour siege of a naval base.

The bomber's target Wednesday appeared to be the police's criminal investigation department, but the building was in an army cantonment and several military facilities also are nearby, said Liaquat Ali Khan, a senior police official in Peshawar.

Investigators with the counter-terrorism unit of the police were stationed at the center, said Fayaz Khan Toru, the top police official in northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

Police officer Mohammad Zahid was in the basement of the building when the bomb went off.

"I felt like the sky fell on me," Zahid said in the hospital, where he was being treated for multiple injuries. "The explosion jammed the door of my room in the basement, but there was a small hole in the wall so I crawled through that. When I got outside, there was lots of dust and smoke."

At least five police officers died, and 30 people were wounded, police official Jalal Khan said. Military forces quickly sealed off much of the cantonment as machines were brought in to sift through the huge piles of rubble left at the site of what was once a multistory building.

The Pakistani Taliban, while hostile to the United States, also despise the Pakistani government and security forces for cooperating with Washington since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The group has carried out numerous attacks on Pakistan's security establishment over the years.

Taliban spokesman Ahsanullah Ahsan said future attacks would also target Pakistan's president, prime minister and army chief, but he said the militants won't assault the country's nuclear installations because "Pakistan is the only Muslim nuclear power state."

"We had announced that we will target Pakistani leaders and Pakistani security forces to punish them for supporting America," he said. "We are carrying out these attacks to prove that we can do what we say."

Government leaders condemned Wednesday's bombing.

"Our determination is much higher than before, and we will fight till the defeat of these terrorists," said Bashir Bilour, a senior official with the provincial government. He said at least 660 pounds (300 kilograms) of explosives were used.

Bin Laden was killed on May 2 by a team of U.S. Navy SEALs in the army town of Abbottabad, elsewhere in Pakistan's northwest and roughly a mile away from Pakistan's premier military academy.

Since the raid, U.S.-Pakistan relations have sunk to new lows.

Pakistani leaders insist they had no idea the al-Qaida leader had been living, apparently for five years, in the large, three-story house in Abbottabad. And they are furious that the U.S. raided the house without telling them in advance.

Since the bin Laden raid, the Pakistani Taliban have taken responsibility for a twin suicide bombing at a paramilitary police training facility that killed around 90 people and a car bomb that slightly wounded two Americans in northwest Pakistan.

But the siege of the naval base in the southern port city of Karachi was easily one of the most audacious militant assaults in years and further rattled a military establishment already humiliated by the unilateral U.S. raid.

The militants destroyed two U.S.-supplied surveillance aircraft while killing 10 people on the base. Four militants died in the fighting, officials said.

There have been conflicting accounts as to the number of insurgents involved - anywhere from six to 15. Pakistan security agencies are known to sometimes not give full accounts of terrorism incidents and often hold suspects for months without informing the public.

The fact that the attackers managed to infiltrate so deep into the high-security base led to speculation they may have had inside information or assistance. The military is not immune from the anti-Americanism and Islamism coursing through the country, especially in its lower ranks, and America's raid against bin Laden has exacerbated anger among soldiers.

The naval base standoff also revived international concerns over whether Pakistan's estimated 100 nuclear weapons were safe from extremists.

During a news conference Tuesday in Kabul, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen acknowledged the ongoing concerns about the safety of Pakistan's nuclear weapons.

"Based on the information and intelligence we have, I feel confident that Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is safe and well protected," Rasmussen said. "But of course, it is a matter of concern and we follow the situation closely."

Passion For Nation Building

Passion is like fire which cannot be frozen.

Passion for ones nation is an important virtue needed for one to be a nation builder. It is the driving force behind distinguished accomplishments. Passion is the zeal of pursuit and equally patriotism in action. It takes passion and patriotism for one's nation, for one to accomplish his mission towards his nation. It equally takes passion and patriotism for one's nation, for one to be a nation builder. Passion and patriotism for ones nation are relative to each other.

It took passion and patriotism for the founding fathers of the United States of America to stand up against all the challenges which stood on their path towards nation building, from their struggle for independence from the British to their struggle to preserve the union after independence. The America every body wants to go today, did not fall from heaven as a gift, it took men of passion and patriotism to build it.

It equally took the passion and patriotism of the generations of Africans in the 1950's and 1960 to realise the dream for independence. Names like Nkwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Patrick Lumuba of Congo, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, and Muhamad Ghandi of India etc; were symbolic to passion and patriotism in their days. Africans and the world at large will need to recover their passion and patriotism in other to meet the challenges of nation building in the 21st century.

In the several stories of the Bible, names like Abraham, Moses, and David etc are all symbolic to passion and patriotism. Their patriotic deeds still live on in the hearts of mankind and still inspires thousand even today. When I read these stories when I was in primary school, I though this men lived in another planet. Their passions and patriotism were extraordinary. We need passionate and patriotic men today in every nation.

Passion for one's nation speaks of the love for one's country and patriotism speaks for ones sense of pride for ones country which inspires loyalty and service. Most nations today are in a crisis for lack of men of passion and patriotism. These crises have degenerated to high corruption and negligence to all forms of patriotic duties.

Passion has always been and will always be the force behind any positive development and breakthrough. Passion is a heart drive towards a desired accomplishment. Needed! Needed! Needed! Men with the passion and patriotism for their nation. Men whose passion and patriotism will take them beyond mountains and valleys etc to impact their nations. Passionate and patriotic men are of more worth in nation building than ordinary professionals. Every nation needs men with extreme passion for nation building. The passion and patriotism for one's nation should inspire the following: Giving, Sacrifice, Availability and Loyalty.

Giving: For any nation to succeed in nation building, the citizens must carry the mentality of what they can do for their nation and not necessarily what their nation can do for them. This is the mentality which has led to the development of most advanced societies. Nation builders should be more concerned with what they can do and give for their nation, than what they can get from their nation. This does not cancelled the fact that, each nation has certain responsibilities for her citizens. To nation builders, contributing is preferable than not contributing, for what one receives does not make one significant like what one gives. Passion and patriotism should inspire giving.

There can be no nation building without men with the passion to give. If all a nation has are men who want to acquire then, such a nation has no future. You may ask the question: What can I give to my nation? You can give your time, energy, ideas, money, etc, towards nation building.

Time: Time is the most abused treasure in many societies. We have those who start drinking as early as 8.00am. Others spend their whole time in gambling houses and nightclubs, etc. There is an adage which says 'Labour before pleasure', but the reverse is true in many societies (pleasure before labour). All kinds of pleasure are encouraged at the expense of work. There is no pleasure-seeking society which can reach the maximum of her potential. God has given the same 24 hours to every nation. The problem is how we invest this time to impact our nation.

Nation builders are time conscious, to them, time is the currency through which they convert their good wishes for their nation into reality. As such, every minute is invested properly for productive results. Time is all we have been given, through which we can convert our wishes to reality. Time in this context has to do with the duration of our lives on earth. The duration of our lives was to be a donation for our nations and the world, not a liability. Life is not measure by how long we have live, but by how much we have live. It is not in the duration of our lives but in the donations of our lives.

I believe we need an awakening of our individual consciences towards the use of the time God has given to us. Let's stop counting time, let's start making time count. Time on its own doesn't change things; people use time to change things. Let us use the time God has given us to impact our generation and build our nation. Let us stop wasting time, let's start investing time. Tomorrow is not our day, today is our day. We all live once on earth; let us use our time to leave a rich legacy, "footprints on the sand of time" for a memorial in the generations to come.

Energy: Providence has bestowed to each individual a degree of energy to contribute towards positive developments. This energy goes beyond physical energy to our inward potential. There is no empty life. Providence has bestowed on each individual great potential. Potential is inert ability, unused might, stored energy, untapped strength buried in everyone. Let us not take this energy (potential) to the grave. It is a crime against humanity for an individual to take his potential to the grave without expressing them to build ones nation and affect ones generation.

Everyone's contribution is needed in nation building. None should deprive his nation of the rich treasure of energy found in him. It is time; every individual gave his energy towards nation building. Nation builders are conscious of the rich store of energy within them and are resolute to empty themselves to build their nation. Nation builders believe the best way to die is to die empty; having released all what is needed for their nation and generation.

Ideas: Ideas are answers to questions, solutions to problems, provisions for visions, etc. Everything we see today began as an idea. Ideas are mental pictures of realities, which can be converted to actualities. Ideas are things as thoughts, inventions as intensions and motions as motives. Even the creation of heaven and earth began as an idea in the mind of God. The great inventions which have shaped history began as ideas. While ordinary people waste their ideas, nation builders invest their ideas.

It is worthwhile at this point to note that, not all ideas are good ideas. The conquest of the entire Europe by Adolph Hitler began as an idea but it was not a good idea. The invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein began as an idea, but it was not a good idea. All these men were destroyed by their negative ideas. In nation building, ideas must be evaluated under the following: Will the idea build, or scatter? Bring development or underdevelopment? Bring peace or war? Divide or unite? Add or subtract? etc.

Nation builders are able to select the ideas which come to their minds; the positive enriching ones are shared with others and invested towards nation building. A positive idea when well invested can alter the destiny of a nation from a less developed nation

to an advanced nation, a poor nation to a wealthy nation, a weak nation to a strong nation, etc. No nation was born great. Nations are built by men of passion, vision and ideas. A poor nation is not necessarily a nation without money, but a nation void of men of ideas. Ideas were the forces behind the great industrial revolution and other positive revolutions which shaped the west.

Money: Money is abused if it becomes an end instead of a means, a vision instead of a provision, and a problem instead of a solution. The abuse of money is simply the wrong perspective of money which inspires the wrong use of money. Money is one of the most abused treasures in many societies. People save money than they save lives. Money which should be used to build a nation is now preserved at the expense of the progress of the nation. Why should an individual save billions when there are things to do with money? No one has carried money to the grave. There is no reason why money should not be invested in one's lifetime to impact his generation.

History has never recorded what an individual had in his bank account but the impact made on his society. It is time we changed our attitude towards money, for attitude determines altitude. Nation builders are men free from the love of money. To them money is a means to impact their nation and not an end in itself. Their excitement is not a function of their bank account but their impact account. Money is one of their weapons employed in building their nation. They have a greater respect for their nation than for money. If all a nation has are extortionists and money mongers, such a nation has no future. A nation needs men who can sometimes release money from their personal accounts in order to contribute to nation building.

Sacrifice: Sacrifice is a greater price than giving. When giving fails to bring a nation to her desired haven, nation builders at that time go beyond giving to sacrifice. Sacrifice is the last resort for any serious breakthrough. Sacrifice has characterized the life of all true nation builders throughout history. Every developed nation is indebted to great souls who through sacrifice contributed to their nation. Sacrifice is the laying down of one's life in order to reach others. Sacrifice is the only cure for selfishness. It will take men who are willing to sacrifice their personal interest, for the building of a nation to be possible.

While ordinary men seek their selfish interest and some even escape from their country in search of greener pastures in other nations, nation builders stay and through sacrifice build their nation. Developing countries are full of men with escapist mentality. All they are looking for is where they can harvest where others have sown. They have no vision to sow for their own harvest.

Availability: An available person is more appreciated in nation building than a qualified person, who has not made himself available. Nations are full of qualified men but few available persons. Passion and patriotism for one's nation inspires availability. Nation builders are not asked 'to do' or forced to contribute. They are men whose passion for their nation has compelled them to be available at all times. In every nation there are three kinds of people: Those that make things happen, those who watch things happen and those that criticise happenings. Those who make things happen are players in the match of nation building. Those who watch things happen are spectators in the match of nation building. Those who criticise happenings are referees in the match of nation building. In the match of nation building, players are winners, spectators are losers and referees are victims. Choose where to belong. Nation builders are those who make things happen, they are players who finally become winners. Availability is one of the secret qualities which qualifies and empowers them to fulfil their destiny.

Nation builders advance when ordinary men retreat. They stand up when ordinary men have fallen down, they run when others are walking, they believe when others doubt, they dare when others hide in fear, they appear when others disappear.

May the Almighty God give each nation, men who will make themselves available at this time for nation building.

Loyalty: Passion and patriotism for one's nation inspires loyalty. Loyalty is allegiance to one's beloved country. Loyalty is not allegiance when things are happening; it is allegiance even when nothing is happening. One of the greatest diseases of our time is disloyalty. We have people who can only stand when things are good, but disappear when contrary situations arise. Thousands of qualified citizens from developing countries are escaping to advanced nations. Some change their names and citizenship instead of staying to build their own nation.

Nation builders carry a passion for their nation, which inspires loyalty even in adverse circumstances. They will prefer to die than to escape from the hot challenges of nation building. It is worthwhile at this point to remind citizens of all developing countries, who are presently drunk with the America/Europe syndrome that, America and Europe did not fall from heaven. It took men of passion to build America and Europe. It's time nationals of all developing countries, came out of their escapist mentality and stopped being irresponsible. They too can build their nations to an enviable point. This is the time of destiny for every nation. Nation building is the way forward.

In conclusion, passion and patriotism for one's country is and will remain one of the most powerful forces in the character of nation builders. This force operates like fire in their bones and this fire is contagious. I pray you catch the fire.

Men of Vision in Nation Building

Vision is simply the power of sight, which is a function of the enlargement of an individual's mind, resulting to one possessing a broader perspective and perception. It takes men of vision for the building of a nation to be possible. Men with a large heart and mind; and a broader look of things. Nation builders must be visionaries within their countries; they should serve as the eyes of their nation. If there is any handicap in most nations today, it is the absence of visionaries. Men with greater insight into the what, why, how, where, when, and who of nation building. Nation building is not the duty for blind people, but for men of vision.

This implies that, a visionary is a hero in nation building, who sees and corrects what others don't see.

Through the eyes of vision, Problems are viewed as promotions, Crises as opportunities, Obstacles as miracles,

Set backs as set-ups for comebacks God, give us men of vision. In this course, we will be looking at vision in three different perspectives. Vision, as insight to what one has. Vision, as an inward picture, or Conception. Vision as foresight into the future.

VISION AS INSIGHT OF WHAT ONE HAS

Life owes no man. All that we need is already within and around us. All what a nation needs to become an economic power is already within that nation. All what is needed, is insight into what each nation has. It is easy to appreciate what another person has, at the expense of what one has. Most people as a result of their ignorance order or import what they have and even pay expensively for what they have. Many developing countries are looking abroad not knowing that what they are looking for is already within their reach. Developing nations should stop searching for what is not lost; all what they need are visionaries who through the power of vision will uncover what individual nations have.

Nation builders are men who are able to see something, where others see nothing. Perceive opportunities in the midst of crises. Moses, one of the greatest nation builders in scriptural history, came to a place of vision, where he could appreciate the rod in his hand. He carried the answer to the deliverance of his nation in his hands but he did not realise it, until when his eyes opened. If each developing nation will only realise what she has at her disposal, then invest to develop it, then there will be a breakthrough in economic power in each developing nation this century. It seems to me that, the advanced societies see more of what developing countries have than the developing countries themselves. While citizens of developing countries travel abroad to do mean jobs, citizens of advanced nations travel to developing nations to exploit the treasures they have. Developing nations have been plagued with the third world mentality in such a way that, their self-esteem has given way to inferiority complex. Citizens from advanced nations come and succeed in developing nations, while citizens of developing nations are running away to seek for asylum in the west. I remember as a child, how much I appreciated 'Whiteman yards', because of their flowers and fruit gardens. What makes it difficult for us to have planted our own flowers? Mentality!

I believe this is the time of change for all nations. What each nation needs are visionaries who will uncover what they have at their disposal. The difference between a poor nation and a rich nation is in the ability to make use of what each nation has. There is no nation even in the developed world, which has maximized even 30% of what she has. Nations are perplexed simply because of ignorance of the answers within their reach. Ignorance of what one has, is the greatest enemy to the maximisation of one's potential. There is no empty place but blind people. Just imagine Israel (with a terrain which looks like a barren desert) a single cow produces sixty litters of milk a day, which proves that

There is Water even in the driest desert, Paths even in the wildest wilderness, but it takes men of vision to see the solution within a nation.

THE POWER OF A NATION

There is no reason why there should be powerful nations and weaker nations. Stronger economies and weaker economies. According to Providence, every nation has what it takes to become a superpower. All its take is for that nation to discover her human and natural resources, and then invest in transforming them into influence and affluence.

Nothing happens by chance. It is said in physics that 'an object is at its resting place until a force is applied to it. Human and natural resources are like seeds within a nation, until they are cultivated and developed to their fullest potential, they can't yield dividend.

Each nation must go beyond wishing to working, investing to transform both her human and natural resources into wealth and strength.

HUMAN RESOURCES

There can't be a nation without people. People are the greatest strength of a nation. Every citizen of a nation is carrying great potential to contribute in nation building. It is unfortunate that many are looking up to their country, not knowing their country is looking up to them. Some out of ignorance of what they carry have surrendered themselves to drunkenness, smoking, immorality, gambling, etc. For a nation to be built, individuals must discover their unique potential and their area of contribution. In most developing countries, out of 100% only 2 % of the people are involved in nation building. The rest sit as liabilities, complaining, murmuring and criticizing, while some spend all their time in bars and chicken parlours. I believe it's time we changed, before we are chased. One of the areas a nation should invest in, is in developing the people within it. A less developed country is not necessarily a poor country, but a country with less developed minds. It is people who change a society and not the society which changes people. The development of people should be the focus of any nation, through her educational scheme. For a nation to achieve effective development, quality education is expedient. For an educational process to be effective in achieving human development, it must offer academic programs which are holistic in nature, taking into consideration the development of the total man. Such an educational process will produce well developed individuals, capable of responding to multiple life's privileges and responsibilities.

When a nation is made up of less developed minds, she will be at the mercy of advanced nations with people of developed minds, as is the case with most developing countries. I believe it is time for the developing nations to stopped oppressing their citizens. Instead, much should be invested to develop the people within each nation. When people are well developed, their sensitivity towards their inward potential and contribution in nation building increases.

It will be unfair to conclude on human resource development without rebuking the habit of selfishness, tribalism, racism etc which has led to the situation in most nations where people who are not from a favoured area, are deprived of exercising their potential. This attitude has led to the brain drain situation in developing nations, were their qualify citizens prefer travelling to work in advanced nations were they will be value than in their own nations under conditions of nepotism. This situation has only lead to the handicap of most developing nations in terms of their human resource capital.

It is time for each nation to make her people love their beloved country. Nobody will stay where he is not appreciated. What you don't appreciate, will depreciate.

NATURAL RESOURCES

God owes no nation, each nation is endowed with natural resources which when well managed, can lead a nation to unspeakable development. Capacity in resources may not all be the same with every country, but each nation is blessed with a degree of natural resources. I believe the differences in natural resources between countries, is a function of their individual destinies in terms of responsibility to their people and the world.

To whom much is given much will be required. The greater the privilege, the greater the responsibility.

The more the favour, the more the labour.

A day is coming when each nation will have to render an account, for what was done with her natural resources to impact her people and the world. Natural resources on their own cannot impact the economy of a nation, except they are first of all discovered and then processed to their fullest utility. The problem with most countries is the inability to properly manage the natural resources bestowed on them. Some are living in complete ignorance of the potential of natural resources at their disposal thus; they surrender their natural wealth to developed nations who in turn process and market back to less developed countries at prices they dictate.

May God give every nation, nation builders with eyes to see and wisdom to transform natural resources to potential products? For this to be possible, every nation should spare no effort to train and develop their people, to manage and control their own resources. I believe God has given the same brain to every people.

It's time developing nations outgrew the third world mentality by developing confidence in themselves and their people. This will lead to a breakthrough even in the least of nations in this Millennium. Every country needs nation builders who have eyes to see what their nations have and are able to inspire others to see alike. With this, no nation will be weak and impotent.

VISION AS INNER PICTURES OR CONCEPTIONS

What is not a mental picture cannot become an actual picture what is not visualised cannot be actualised.

Where there is no conception, there can't be birth. Nation builders must be visionaries carrying within them, mental pictures of their desired plans and dreams for their nation. It is this visions and dreams which will determine the actual destiny of their nation. God in creating the heavens and the earth carried within Him a mental picture of His desired heaven and earth. It was this picture which guided Him through the path of creation.

Nation builders are bound to make mistakes if they are working without any mental picture or conception of where they are going to, through what they are doing. For 'Where there is no vision the people perish'. The greatest problem affecting most nations today is that, most of those who claim to be nation builders operate without vision, (mental picture or conception of the plan of where they are going, and how they can get there).

Vision empowers living. Vision is the only motion for life. Without vision there can't be direction. Vision is the secret behind startling accomplishments. Vision is the only way forward.

VISION AS FORESIGHT INTO THE FUTURE

The future is something we can't escape from. The only thing to do is to prepare for the future today. Today is the womb and tomorrow is the child, which implies that, tomorrow is a function of today's plans. Tomorrow does not exist without a connection with today. Nation builders must see tomorrow through the eyes of vision, in order to create plans which will preserve their nations in the future. Lack of vision for the future is a great handicap to most nations. Many civil wars and other natural disasters would have been averted, if only people saw the future.

Nation builders through their vision of the future are able to make plans to preserve their nation in the future. Nothing preserves a nation like nation builders with foresight into the future. According to scriptural history, Egypt was preserved in the days of Joseph because of his vision of the future. After seven years of plenty, Egypt would have plunged into seven years of death, if not of Joseph. His vision for the future motivated him to come out with economic plans during Egypt's seven years of plenty, which preserved Egypt during the seven years of famine. All nations at that time came to Egypt for food.

Every nation needs the Joseph kind of people; men who can see the future and come out with strategies to preserve lives in the future. In the years 2010 - 2020, nation's void of visionaries of this magnitude will plunge into darkness.

Let's ask God for eyes to see through times or ahead of time. Nation builders must be men of Vision. They must see what they have; they must carry a mental picture of where they are going to, and how they will get there. Finally, they must be men of foresight into the future. These three levels of vision are imperative for the survival of any nation.

THE PRODUCTS OF VISION

Discovery Vision, (The ability to see what one has) inspires discovery. Unless there is discovery, there can't be recovery.

Every nation is bestowed with all it takes to rise unto great heights. Vision is the path which leads to the discovery of all a nation has. Most problems in nations will be solved, as each nation enters into discovery, through the power of vision.

Action Vision inspires action and actions speak louder than words. A man cannot but act the mental pictures he carries of where he is going to, and how he can get there. Complacent and passive people are men without vision. Vision sets you on motion. Most people sit like parked trucks waiting for things to happen. Things don't happen by chance but people make things happen. Things happen as a result of a well-calculated plan of action.

Show me a progressive society, I will show you a society which through vision, work has become a lifestyle. In most countries, people spend time drinking, smoking, prostituting, gambling etc. I believe the only way out of this present frustration is for each nation to include Nation Building as a subject in all educational institutions.

Vision will transform a nation from an idle, pleasure-seeking nation, to a strong and hardworking nation. Vision is the only way forward for most developing nations.

Direction: Vision gives direction. Direction births focus, Focus births concentration, and Concentration produces penetration and penetration breaks resistance. A society without a vision will lack direction. Such a society will experience waste because; much will be invested toward the wrong direction. Proper direction helps in the maximisation of time and the resources God has placed at our disposal. If one misses his direction, he will miss distinction.
