First grader hailed as hero after performing Heimlich

Eyewitness NewsCALIFORNIA (WABC) -- A quick-thinking California first grader is being hailed a hero for what she did to help a classmate.

Six-year-old Beanie Mar did not panic, but instead performed the Heimlich Maneuver when her friend started choking.

Fellow first grader Aniyah Rigmaiden got a piece of apple stuck in her throat during lunch at her elementary school.

Beanie dislodged the apple chunk from her friend's throat with a single thrust.

She said she saw the Heimlich performed on the Disney Channel.
